MUSCAT – The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre warns that a trough of low pressure will bring rainfall of varying intensity, occasional thunderstorms, active winds, and isolated hail, with a risk of flash floods, dust storms, and reduced visibility.
The initial wave on March 20–21 is expected to affect Musandam, Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah, Muscat, parts of the Hajar Mountains, and the Dhofar coasts, with scattered light to moderate rain, sometimes thundery, and southeasterly winds of 10–25 knots along coastal areas. The impact intensity is considered low.
From March 22–23, the main weather system will intensify, affecting most governorates including Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, North and South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, North and South Al Sharqiyah, parts of Al Wusta, and Dhofar. Rainfall may vary in intensity and become thundery, with moderate to high impact. The CAA warned of flash flooding in wadis and valleys, strong downdrafts reaching 30–45 knots (35–83 km/h), hail, and active southeasterly winds along the Arabian Sea coast, leading to dust storms and reduced horizontal visibility. Sea conditions are expected to be moderate, with waves up to 2 meters, and the authority advises avoiding the sea during thunderstorms.
The weather system is expected to continue affecting most of the Sultanate until March 30, with intermittent rainfall, thunderstorms, and the possibility of flash floods. The CAA urged residents and visitors to exercise caution, monitor local weather bulletins, and check sea conditions before venturing out.
Further updates will be provided in subsequent reports.
