NEW DELHI: India has increased its production of liquefied petroleum gas by 36 percent in two weeks to meet growing supply and demand issues in the country. The production increase comes as authorities respond to pressures on domestic fuel availability in several regions.
Officials described the situation as “alarming” but said measures were being taken to ensure the availability of cooking gas across the country. Increased production is expected to stabilise supply in the coming weeks. Oil marketing companies and refineries have been ordered to increase production and improve distribution efficiency to avoid shortages, government officials said.
Additional logistics support has also been introduced to ensure timely delivery of LPG cylinders, especially to the highest-demand urban and suburban areas. Experts noted that increased consumption, seasonal demand and supply chain issues are contributing to the decline in liquefied petroleum gas availability.
