California: World number two Jannik Sinner secured an exciting victory over Daniil Medvedev with a 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-4) win in the final of the Indian Wells Masters 1000 tennis tournament on Sunday.

The 24-year-old Italian held his nerve in two tense tiebreaks to capture his first-ever Indian Wells title. The victory also marked Sinner’s tenth Masters title across six different tournaments, all of which have come on hard courts.

Both players delivered a high-quality contest in which neither dropped serve throughout the match. Medvedev was forced to save two break points in the opening set, but Sinner remained composed to edge the first tiebreak 8-6.

The second set followed a similar pattern, with both players holding serve comfortably. Medvedev appeared poised to force a decider when he raced to a 4-0 lead in the tiebreak, but Sinner staged a remarkable comeback to win seven of the next eight points and seal the title.

Medvedev, currently ranked 11th in the world, had entered the final in strong form after stunning world number one Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in the semi-finals. However, the Russian failed to earn a single break point opportunity against Sinner during the final.

The Italian now leads their head-to-head record 9-7 and has won nine of their last ten encounters.
