MUSCAT – The deployment, confirmed by U.S. defence officials, involves the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), typically based in Okinawa, Japan. The unit will deploy with amphibious warships including the USS Tripoli as part of a rapid-response force aimed at protecting commercial shipping and strengthening deterrence in the Gulf.

The deployment will reinforce the more than 50,000 U.S. military personnel already stationed across the region. Officials stated that the move is intended to enhance crisis response and deterrence capabilities as hostilities escalate.
