Muscat: In his address, His Highness Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said highlighted that 2025 marked a significant turning point in the journey of the Oman Olympic Committee following the election of the current Board of Directors. He noted that the meeting was convened to review the committee’s progress and approve key strategic and financial decisions for the upcoming phase.

His Highness explained that the committee has recalibrated its priorities to focus on sports with Olympic potential, while strengthening the development of young athletes through Olympic Solidarity programmes. These initiatives are being implemented in close coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.

Emphasising the importance of capacity building, His Highness also underscored the committee’s continued efforts to qualify technical and administrative personnel through programmes offered by the Omani Olympic Academy. He noted that investing in human resources remains a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable sports development in the Sultanate.

During the meeting, the General Assembly approved the minutes of the previous meeting held on March 23, 2025, after reviewing its key decisions and recommendations. Members also reviewed the committee’s annual report on administrative affairs and activities for the year ending 2025, which outlined major events and programmes undertaken at the local, regional and international levels.

The report highlighted the Sultanate of Oman’s participation in several sporting events, including the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain and the Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia. It also noted the successful hosting of the third Gulf Cooperation Council Beach Games by Oman, which witnessed strong public attendance and organisational success. Omani national teams topped the overall medal standings at the event, securing a total of 45 coloured medals.

Among other milestones, the report highlighted the opening of the Omani Olympic Museum and the implementation of Olympic Solidarity programmes aimed at supporting athletes, coaches and sports administrators.

The Omani Olympic Academy’s efforts in developing sports personnel through specialised training courses and programmes were also reviewed, alongside community initiatives and awareness campaigns carried out by the committee’s auxiliary committees to promote sports culture and encourage healthy and active lifestyles.

The General Assembly also approved the renewal of the mandate of the Omani Committee for Sports Dispute Resolution and Arbitration in its current composition. Members reviewed and approved the final accounts for the fiscal year ending 2025, which had been audited, and selected the auditor for the fiscal year 2026.

The meeting concluded with a review of the committee’s draft financial budget for the current year, including discussions on allocations for future programmes and activities aimed at advancing the Olympic movement and strengthening the development of sports in the Sultanate of Oman.
