MUSCAT – According to the Authority, several complaints were received from citizens who had contracted with the establishment and paid significant sums for tourism programmes that were not carried out as agreed. The Consumer Protection Authority in Muscat Governorate referred the cases to the Public Prosecution after confirming violations linked to non-delivery or partial delivery of services.
The complaints involved tourism packages that included hotel bookings, tour itineraries and transportation services. However, in many cases the services were either not provided at all or were only partially implemented. Authorities also noted that the company’s offices had been closed since the end of 2024.
The total value of complaints exceeded RO 25,000. While some consumers received part of the services included in their travel programmes, others did not receive any services despite paying the full amount or a substantial portion of the agreed cost.
Following review, the competent courts convicted the owner of the establishment and the entity operating in the sector of the misdemeanour of failing to provide services to consumers in accordance with the requirements of the law. The rulings included six months’ imprisonment for the first defendant, along with financial penalties.
The court imposed a fine of RO 100 on the defendant and RO 100 on the establishment in each case, bringing the total fines imposed on both parties to RO 3,800. In addition, the court ordered the company to refund affected consumers approximately RO 20,334.5, covering several cases involving tourism programmes that were either not implemented or only partially executed.
The judgments also required the defendants to bear the costs of the public lawsuit.
