MUSCAT : The agreement was signed by His Excellency Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, on behalf of the Ministry, and by Hilal bin Hamad Al Busaidi on behalf of the company.
The project, a part of the Ministry’s efforts to promote sustainable tourism investment in the Sultanate’s cultural heritage, aims to develop the historic city of Sumhuram – one of the sites within the Land of Frankincense listed by UNESCO – and transform it into an international tourism destination that combines historical heritage with the natural beauty of the area.

Planned developments include integrated tourism facilities such as luxury hospitality establishments, cultural and heritage attractions, environmental and nature-based experiences, as well as restaurants and centres dedicated to traditional crafts and cultural activities reflecting Oman’s heritage.
Officials said the project is expected to support the national economy by encouraging investment, creating direct and indirect employment opportunities for residents of Dhofar Governorate and strengthening the role of small and medium enterprises in the cultural and eco-tourism sectors.
The initiative also seeks to enhance community participation in tourism-related activities while preserving the site’s cultural and natural heritage and offering visitors a distinctive experience highlighting Oman’s rich history and unique landscapes.
