CARACAS : Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, has announced plans to introduce reforms to the country’s mining basic law, with proposals expected to be submitted to Congress in the coming days.

The announcement came after a meeting with U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum in Caracas, during which the two countries discussed opportunities to develop Venezuela’s mining sector and promote international investment.

The proposed reforms aim to reduce bureaucratic barriers and open up the sector to greater participation by foreign companies, especially in the extraction of valuable resources such as gold, diamonds and other important minerals.

Officials said the changes could help boost Venezuela’s mining industry, attract billions of dollars in investment, and create new economic opportunities as the government seeks to strengthen its resource-based economy.
