NEW YORK — US President Donald Trump has dismissed Kristi Noem from her role as Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security, bringing an end to her roughly one-year tenure at the agency overseeing the administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement and deportation policies.

The president has nominated Markwayne Mullin, a senator from Oklahoma, to take over the position.

Announcing the decision on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump said Noem had “served us well” during her time in the role.
