MUMBAI — Defending champions India defeated England in the second semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to set up a title clash with New Zealand after a commanding performance at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

India piled up a formidable 253 for 7 in 20 overs, powered by a brilliant knock from Sanju Samson, who top-scored with 89 to anchor the innings and propel India to one of the tournament’s highest totals.

Samson’s aggressive stroke play kept the scoreboard ticking at a rapid pace as India dominated the first half of the contest.

England’s chase was led by a sensational effort from Jacob Bethell, who smashed 105 off 48 balls, striking boundaries and sixes at regular intervals to keep England in the contest.
