RIYADH – Explosions were reported in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Saturday, AFP news agency said, as tensions continued to rise across the Gulf region following military exchanges between Israel and Iran.

The cause of the explosions was not immediately clear, and there was no immediate statement from Saudi authorities on potential damage or casualties.

The reports come amid heightened security alerts across several Gulf states. Earlier, multiple countries in the region temporarily closed their airspace and activated emergency protocols following missile and drone activity linked to the ongoing confrontation between Israel and Iran.

Residents in parts of Riyadh reported hearing loud blasts, according to AFP, though independent verification was not immediately available.

Saudi Arabia has not officially commented on the reported explosions. Authorities in neighbouring Gulf countries have urged the public to remain calm and follow official guidance as security forces assess developments.
