Oman’s Supreme Judicial Council mandates video calls for lawyers’ powers of attorney services

The Supreme Judicial Council announced that, effective March 1, 2026, all issuance of lawyers’ powers of attorney will be conducted exclusively via video call on the Tawtheeq platform, marking the end of in-person processing at notary public offices.

MUSCAT : The council said this step is part of its ongoing efforts to modernise judicial services, improve transaction efficiency, and accelerate service delivery. Law offices and legal consultancies have been formally notified that Notary Public offices will no longer receive clients for the issuance of powers of attorney after the specified date.

To complete a power of attorney via video call, users should:

  1. Visit sjc.gov.om and access Tawtheeq platform for notary public services.
  2. Select ‘Power of Attorney’ and enter the required details.
  3. Pay the applicable fees.
  4. Choose the video call option.
  5. Undergo eligibility and identity verification during the call.
  6. Receive a text message containing the link to the completed power of attorney.
