MUSCAT – The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has announced a court ruling issued on February 24, 2026, in favour of a number of consumers in a case against a travel and tourism establishment in the Muscat Governorate, resulting in total fines and compensation exceeding RO 15,000.
According to the Authority, the competent court found the establishment and its representative guilty of failing to provide services in accordance with signed contracts. The verdict included a three-month prison sentence for the establishment’s representative, in addition to financial penalties totalling RO 15,815. The amount covers fines, restitution of sums paid by consumers, and compensation for damages. The defendants were also ordered to bear the costs of the public prosecution.
The complaints varied in nature, with consumers reporting failure to issue tickets on time, cancellation of trips without prior notice, non-implementation of agreed tour programs, and delays in delivering flight and hotel reservations. The cases involved differing sums paid for services that were not provided, including cruises, tour packages, flight bookings, hotel reservations, and ticketing services.

The Authority stated that the cases were initially filed following complaints from affected consumers. After attempts to reach amicable settlements failed, the cases were referred to the Public Prosecution and subsequently adjudicated by the competent courts.
Court rulings across the cases included fines of RO 1,000 for each defendant in each case, totalling RO 7,000, as well as orders to refund RO 7,715 to consumers for undelivered services. Additional compensation amounting to RO 1,100 was awarded to some complainants for material and moral damages, bringing the total financial obligations to RO 15,815.
