Unrest erupted following the reported murder of Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguerra Cervantes, leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). In the hours after news of his death, there were reports of armed clashes, road closures and vehicle fires in parts of the city, leading to increased security and the temporary closure of public services.
