MUSCAT : The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has issued a stern warning to retailers and businesses against exploiting shopping seasons to manipulate prices, emphasising that such practices are illegal under Omani law.
CPA reminded the public that taking advantage of high-demand periods to artificially inflate prices constitutes a violation of the Consumer Protection Law and may lead to criminal penalties. The warning comes as part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to safeguard consumer rights, ensure fair pricing, maintain market stability with availability of essential goods during the holy month of Ramadan.
As part of these efforts, the Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah Governorate has intensified field monitoring, conducting visits to retail outlets to track price movements and confirm that goods are available to consumers. Authorities said these measures help prevent practices that could negatively impact consumer rights and contribute to a stable marketplace.
The Authority urged consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious price hikes or unfair practices through official communication channels.
