OTTAWA : Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to begin a multilateral tour of India, Australia and Japan this week in what officials describe as a strategic effort to deepen diplomatic, economic and security partnerships across the Asia-Pacific region.

The visit comes at a time when Ottawa is seeking to expand its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing economic corridors, shifting global alliances and increasing focus on Indo-Pacific cooperation.

During his visit, Carney will hold high-level discussions focused on trade expansion, clean energy cooperation, supply chain resilience and regional security challenges. Discussions are also likely to focus on emerging technologies, defence cooperation, and efforts to combat climate change. Analysts see the trip as part of Canada’s broader strategy to diversify its trade relationships beyond its traditional North American market while strengthening partnerships with key democratic allies in the Indo-Pacific region.
