MUSCAT – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has issued Royal Decree No. 26/2026 restoring Omani citizenship to 68 individuals, according to the latest edition of the Official Gazette.
The decree, published in Issue No. 1636 on Sunday, provides for the reinstatement of citizenship to the named individuals. The restoration was carried out in accordance with the country’s nationality framework and based on a recommendation by the Minister of Interior.
Under Royal Decree No. 17/2025 promulgating the Omani Nationality Law, the restoration of Omani citizenship is effected by royal decree upon the interior minister’s recommendation. The law also allows, by exception and through a royal decree, for citizenship to be granted or restored without strict adherence to the conditions and provisions set out in the legislation.

Article 13 of the law permits an Omani by origin who previously renounced citizenship in accordance with legal provisions and acquired another nationality to apply for its restoration, subject to several conditions.
Applicants must have their ordinary residence in Oman or have returned to the country and declared in writing their intention to settle there permanently. They must demonstrate good conduct, have no final conviction for a felony or a crime involving dishonour or breach of trust unless rehabilitated, and submit a written declaration confirming their intention to renounce their current nationality and that they hold no other citizenship.
Minor children may regain Omani citizenship automatically in accordance with their father’s restored status.
The law also allows a child who lost Omani citizenship following the father’s renunciation to apply for its reinstatement, provided that the father was an Omani by origin, the application is submitted within five years of reaching the age of majority, and the conditions stipulated in Article 13 are met.
