MUSCAT – Dr. Na’ama bint Obaid Al Ma’amari, Senior Consultant in IVF and ICSI and Head of the Fertility Center, told the Oman News Agency that confirmed pregnancies increased from 84 in 2024 to 188 in 2025, bringing the total over the two years to 272 – a rise of approximately 124 percent. She said this reflects continuous improvements in the laboratory and fertility clinic, as well as the effectiveness of treatment plans.

Dr. Al Ma’amari pointed out that the centre, during the first two years of its operation, has achieved significant expansion in workload and clear improvements in performance indicators, positively reflected in pregnancy rates and treatment success, said.

She explained that the total number of egg retrieval (OPU) cycles reached 1,482, including 611 cycles in 2024 and 871 cycles in 2025, marking a 42.6 percent increase. Embryo transfer (ET) operations totaled 837, with 305 conducted in 2024 and 532 in 2025, highlighting the growth in operational capacity and workflow efficiency.

Frozen embryo transfer (FET) procedures saw a remarkable rise from 184 in 2024 to 430 in 2025, driven by improvements in freezing protocols, embryo quality, and treatment cycle management. The centre transferred a total of 1,674 embryos, including 409 fresh and 1,265 frozen embryos, with an average of approximately two embryos per transfer, aligning with clinical standards to balance success rates while minimizing the risk of multiple pregnancies.

The FET procedures alone resulted in 184 confirmed pregnancies in 2025, underscoring the effectiveness of the protocols and careful timing of transfers.

Dr. Al Ma’amari attributed the improvement to several factors: the wider application of FET protocols, growing experience of the medical team, and an increase in reviewed cases, which enhanced operational efficiency and coordination between the clinic and laboratory, ultimately improving treatment outcomes.

She noted that the positive results over the past two years lay a strong foundation for the next phase, aiming to expand the centre’s capacity and range of services to meet the growing demand for assisted reproductive treatments and elevate the quality of patient care.

The fertility centre at Al Wattayah Obstetrics and Gynaecology Complex continues to offer hope to couples, providing support and guidance to help them navigate challenges related to pregnancy and childbirth safely and confidently.
