BEIJING: The death toll from an explosion at a biotech factory in northern China has risen to eight as emergency workers continue to work at the scene, local authorities said.
Officials said one person was missing after an explosion at a factory in Jiapeng Biotechnology Co., Ltd., in Shanxi Province, located approximately 400 kilometres west of Beijing. Search and rescue operations continue as crews clear the wreckage in hopes of locating the missing people.
The explosion occurred early Saturday morning, prompting an immediate emergency response. Officials confirmed an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident, and a safety assessment is underway at the scene.
