MUSCAT — Oman has recorded a steady rise in national employment across the transport, logistics and information technology sectors, driven by targeted Omanization policies and training-linked employment initiatives, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology said on Monday. 
Omanization in the transport and logistics sector rose to 21.6% in 2025, up from 20% in 2024, reflecting increased hiring of nationals across infrastructure, operations and supervisory roles, according to the ministry.
The construction segment saw a notable boost, with 1,437 Omanis appointed to specialized positions within companies executing road construction and maintenance projects overseen by the ministry, supporting higher national participation in one of the country’s largest employment-generating sectors.

In the information technology sector, Omanization climbed to 45.5% in 2025, a sharp increase from 38% a year earlier, as government-backed initiatives expanded training, freelancing and private-sector absorption of local talent.
The ministry said the share of Omanis in technical, specialized and leadership roles continued to grow, reaching 59% in transport and logistics and 69% in the IT sector, compared with 52% and 63% respectively in 2024.
Officials attributed the gains to employment-linked training programmes targeting young Omanis in supply chain management, transport services and logistics operations, alongside structured pathways into technical and leadership positions.
As part of efforts to widen labour market participation, the ministry said 90 new female taxis were registered under the Women Taxi Initiative, expanding employment opportunities for Omani women in the transport sector.
The government is also coordinating with public and private stakeholders to regulate express delivery services as a formal economic activity, aiming to create structured and scalable employment opportunities for citizens in last-mile logistics.
In the technology sector, the ministry highlighted the continued expansion of the “Makeen” initiative, under which more than 11,000 graduates and job seekers have been trained since launch, including 2,032 beneficiaries in 2025 alone.
In addition, 21 ICT-related activities were approved for freelance work, enabling Omanis to access flexible employment opportunities while supporting the growth of the digital economy.
The ministry said it is developing a framework to further stimulate local content and sustainable employment in the ICT sector, alongside academic partnerships and startup-support programmes aimed at long-term job creation.
