Muscat: Al-Balushi’s recent success, including podium finishes at major international events such as the Grand Prix International Finals in Bosnia and Herzegovina, reflects significant technical and mental growth, positioning him as a rising force in world taekwondo. Speaking to Oman News Agency, the young athlete described 2026 as a pivotal foundational year as he prepares to transition for the first time into the general category, an upgrade that demands greater physical intensity, faster decision-making and higher endurance.
He explained that his journey will begin in the (-54 kg) weight category, with a gradual move to (-58 kg), based on assessments by the technical staff and his physical readiness. His preparation programme now places strong emphasis on strength, speed and tactical development, particularly when facing varied playing styles from Europe and Asia, while carefully selecting accredited tournaments to steadily boost his world ranking without excessive strain.
Looking ahead, Al-Balushi said the upcoming world championships offer a dual opportunity: to prove that his 2025 achievements marked the start of a consistent upward trajectory, and to gain vital experience against the world’s strongest taekwondo schools. He also stressed the importance of injury management and recovery, given the demanding schedule of competitions, training camps and international travel.

Outlining his long-term ambitions, Al-Balushi revealed a four-stage roadmap towards qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The plan includes building rankings during 2025–2026, entering the elite level in 2026–2027, navigating the decisive qualification phase in 2027 and early 2028, and reaching peak readiness ahead of the Games, with the aim of competing as a true contender.
