London: The decision follows a 1–1 draw away at Leeds United on Sunday and comes amid a complete breakdown in relations between Amorim and the club’s hierarchy. In post-match comments, the 40-year-old appeared to highlight internal tensions, insisting he was United’s “manager,” not merely the “coach.”
Amorim joined United in November 2024 from Sporting CP but departs with the 13-time Premier League champions sixth in the table, having secured only three wins in their last 11 league outings.
In a statement confirming the move, the club said Amorim had “departed his role as Head Coach” and acknowledged his contribution, including guiding the team to the UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao in May. United added that the change was made “to give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.”
