Muscat: According to the latest data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information, prepaid mobile services continued to dominate the market, accounting for 5,152,342 subscriptions, up 2 percent compared to the same period in 2024. Postpaid subscriptions also edged higher, rising 1.8 percent to 1,268,345.
The strongest growth was recorded in Internet of Things and machine-to-machine (M2M) connections, which surged 57.5 percent to 1,589,036 subscriptions, highlighting expanding use of connected devices across sectors such as logistics, utilities and smart infrastructure.
Fixed communications services also posted steady gains. Fixed broadband internet subscriptions increased by 3 percent year-on-year to 597,114, driven largely by fibre expansion. Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connections rose 10.8 percent to 354,014 subscriptions, while fixed 5G services grew marginally by 1 percent. In contrast, fixed 4G subscriptions fell sharply by 54.5 percent, and ADSL connections declined by 36.1 percent, underscoring the shift toward high-speed fibre networks.

Meanwhile, fixed telephone subscriptions reached 411,065, marking a 1 percent increase compared to last year. International internet capacity also expanded significantly, rising 14.8 percent to 4,102,219 megabits per second by the end of November 2025.
