Muscat — An Indian expatriate woman died in a trekking accident in Oman’s Jebel Shams region, according to family sources.
Sharada Iyer, 52, a resident of Muscat and a former manager with Oman Air, died while trekking with friends in the Bahla area of the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, they said.
Iyer was the sister of well-known Malayalam singer Chitra Iyer and hailed from Thazhava in Karunagappally, Kerala. She had returned to Oman on December 24 after travelling to India to attend the funeral of her father, Dr R.D. Iyer, who died on December 11.

Her body is being kept at Bahla Hospital and will be handed over to relatives after the completion of official procedures, sources said.
She is survived by her mother, Rohini Iyer.
