Sanaa: In a televised address, Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, said the decision was taken to uphold national sovereignty. He announced the immediate cancellation of the joint defence deal with the United Arab Emirates and ordered all UAE military forces to withdraw from Yemeni territory within 24 hours.
Al-Alimi also declared a 72-hour air, land and sea blockade, covering all ports and border crossings, and announced a 90-day nationwide state of emergency, citing the need to safeguard national security and public order. The Presidential Leadership Council, which is backed by the Saudi-led coalition, said the measures were necessary amid escalating security concerns.
While reaffirming his appreciation for coalition support, Al-Alimi renewed his praise for Saudi Arabia and allied partners for backing Yemen’s government during the conflict.
