Bhutan young spin sensation rocks world cricket with first-ever 8-wicket T20 spell

Bhutan’s young spin sensation Sonam Yeshey etched his name into cricket history, becoming the first bowler to claim an eight-wicket haul in a men’s T20 International.

Thimphu: The 22-year-old left-arm spinner delivered a spell for the ages during the third T20I against Myanmar at Gelephu Mindfulness City, returning astonishing figures of 8 for 7. His performance dismantled Myanmar’s batting line-up, bowling them out for just 45 while chasing Bhutan’s modest total of 127 for 9, according to ESPNcricinfo.

With this effort, Sonam Yeshey became the first bowler in the history of T20 cricket—international or domestic—to take eight wickets in a single match. Until now, the best bowling figures in men’s T20 Internationals belonged to Malaysia pacer Syazrul Idrus, who picked up 7 for 8 against China in 2023.
