The company also witnessed progress in number of its strategic and major projects including achieving over 60% completion of the second phase of the Strategic Interconnection Project “Rabt”, with a total cost of approximately OMR 295 million, and more than 90% completion of the Dhofar Governorate network expansion projects, with a total cost of around OMR 65 million. In addition, OETC achieved over 50% progress in the first-of-its-kind strategic project in Oman to connect Masirah Island to the main transmission network using advanced and complex technologies, at an estimated total cost of OMR 70 million. The year also witnessed the commissioning of the Fault Current Limitation System for the 132 kV transmission network to reduce faults, protect transformers and network components, and ensure the reliability and safety of electricity supply, as well as the energization of the main transmission Grid Station for the Polysilicon Plant Factory in Sohar. Our efforts and strategic projects to expand the national grid continue to be implemented in phases in line with plans and directions, with a total cost exceeding OMR 1 billion by 2030, ensuring the realization of visions and aspirations and supporting the development journey across all sectors.
These efforts come in response to sectoral growth and the comprehensive development needs witnessed across various sectors in Oman. Since its establishment, OETC has remained committed to expanding the national electricity grid and enhancing the reliability, sustainability, and safety of power supply nationwide. Reflecting these efforts, the number of Grid Stations reached 116 by 2025, compared to only 29 Grid Stations in 2005, representing an increase of 300%. Transmission lines also extended to more than 10,400 kilometers, an increase exceeding 288%, compared to just 2,680 kilometers in 2005. Furthermore, the company awarded 9 new projects during the year with a total value exceeding OMR 250 million, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions by more than 1,914,000 tons annually, and supporting the connection of 3 wind farms with a total capacity of 1,220 MW, in addition to a 500 MW solar power project. This will contribute to achieving net-zero targets by 2050, enabling the use of renewable energy sources, optimizing natural gas consumption, and supporting the localization of industries associated with these vital sectors.
