Phnom Penh: According to a statement issued by the Cambodian Ministry of Defence, the cessation of hostilities applies comprehensively to both civilian and military targets, covering all areas and circumstances along the contested border.

The breakthrough came after Thailand and Cambodia announced last Wednesday that officials from their respective militaries had resumed fresh negotiations aimed at de-escalating tensions. These discussions followed a special meeting of Southeast Asian foreign ministers held in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week, convened to rescue a fragile truce.

The ceasefire efforts were brokered by Malaysia, which currently holds the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with support from US President Donald Trump. The diplomatic push came after renewed fighting threatened to derail earlier peace attempts following clashes last July.

The long-running dispute between Thailand and Cambodia over sections of their shared border dates back more than a century. However, tensions escalated sharply last July when Thailand accused Cambodia of planting landmines that injured Thai troops, triggering the latest round of violence.
