MUSCAT : He becomes the first Omani to hold this international position.

This election reflects the recognition of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism’s efforts – through the Oman Convention Bureau – to develop the conferences and incentive travel sector and to enhance the Sultanate of Oman’s global presence as a leading destination for hosting international events in accordance with global standards.

Khalid Al Zadjali’s representation is expected to strengthen the exchange of expertise and international cooperation with ICCA member states and institutions. ICCA is considered one of the most prominent global organisations overseeing the meetings and conferences sector. The role will further support efforts to promote Oman as a distinguished destination for hosting high-profile international conferences and events, helping attract regional and global gatherings across priority sectors identified in Oman Vision 2040. This, in turn, will support economic diversification, as the conferences and incentives segment is among the fastest-growing areas in global tourism and offers strong economic returns.

The new position will also help highlight Oman’s diverse tourism assets, facilities, and infrastructure – particularly those related to meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE – as well as its resorts, experiences, and services that cater to a wide range of interests. This is expected to boost visitor numbers and attract new global markets to the Sultanate.

It is worth noting that the International Congress and Convention Association, founded in 1963, is one of the world’s leading organizations in the conferences and meetings sector. It includes more than 1,100 members from over 100 countries, representing institutions and companies active in the international conferences, exhibitions, and meetings industry. Its Board of Directors comprises 16 members representing various regions of the world.
