MUSCAT : The Israeli military confirmed that it targeted a Hezbollah militant in the southern suburbs, an area widely regarded as the group’s stronghold. Residents reported hearing the roar of warplanes moments before a powerful blast shook the neighbourhood, prompting people to rush out of their apartment buildings, fearing additional strikes.

A Reuters reporter at the scene described scenes of chaos as civilians fled into the streets seeking safety. Medical sources said that at least two dozen individuals were wounded in the attack and transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

There was no immediate comment from Hezbollah or Lebanon’s health ministry regarding the strike or the extent of casualties.

Earlier on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that Israel would continue efforts across multiple fronts to curb what he described as “terrorism.” He later confirmed the Beirut strike, stating that the operation targeted the Chief of Staff of Hezbollah.
“We will continue to do whatever is necessary to prevent Hezbollah from reestablishing its ability to threaten us,” Netanyahu said.

The strike comes amid heightened tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border. In November, Israel intensified airstrikes in southern Lebanon, saying the near-daily assaults were aimed at preventing Hezbollah’s military resurgence in the frontier region.
