Oman launches Central Number Portability System; subscribers can now switch operators hassle-free

MUSCAT – This new, automated platform allows subscribers to switch between service providers while keeping their existing mobile number, completing the process quickly and conveniently. It is set to significantly improve user experience and boost competition across the sector.

Developed by the TRA, the new centralized system introduces streamlined and automated procedures designed to support the Sultanate’s digital transformation goals and deliver a more efficient, user-friendly experience. The TRA noted that subscribers can now initiate number transfers with significantly reduced processing times.  

The TRA outlined several key objectives behind the Central Number Portability System, including:

  • Improving the user experience by making number transfer faster, easier, and more convenient.
  • Enhancing competition among telecommunications operators and encouraging improved service offerings.
  • Establishing a flexible regulatory environment that enables effective oversight of number portability services while ensuring compliance.
  • Achieving efficiency by simplifying and expediting the transfer process, allowing completion within minutes.
  • Adopting global best practices in designing and implementing number portability mechanisms.
