MUSCAT – This election, held on the sidelines of the meetings of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference held in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan, comes in recognition of Oman’s ongoing efforts to support environmental sustainability initiatives and its contributions toward maintaining a balance between development needs and the preservation of ecological systems. This is in alignment with Oman Vision 2040 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

This new international achievement reflects the leading position of the Sultanate of Oman in the fields of environmental protection and biodiversity conservation.

The Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme aim to enhance scientific and research collaboration among member states by expanding protected areas, conserving biodiversity, promoting scientific research, and empowering young people and researchers through research grants. The programme also contributes to raising environmental awareness and addressing the challenges of climate change by supporting innovation and sustainable solutions.

This international representation is a strategic step that enhances the Omani presence on global environmental platforms and consolidates the role of the Sultanate of Oman as an active partner in efforts to protect the planet and achieve a balance between man and nature.

It is worth noting that the Sultanate of Oman has succeeded in including two nature reserves in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves: Al-Sareen Nature Reserve and Al Jabal Al Akhdar Landscape Reserve
