MUSCAT – The project, which also comprises the adjacent section of November 18 Road, will be implemented at a total cost exceeding RO 44.94 million.
The agreement was signed by His Excellency Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shamkhi, Undersecretary for Transport at the Ministry, and by Sheikh Hamed bin Abdulqawi Al Yafei, Executive Director of Strabag Oman.
The project aims to enhance traffic efficiency, ease congestion, and support commercial, economic, and tourism activity in the area.
The project includes adding a third lane on each side of the road from Muscat International Airport Bridge to Al Ishraq Roundabout towards Seeb Beach, constructing a bridge and four traffic lights at Al Mouj Roundabout, and constructing an overhead roundabout and an underpass for vehicles at the existing Al Bahja Roundabout.

The project also includes upgrading Al Ishraq roundabout to three traffic lights with lanes that allow continuous traffic towards Seeb beach, and adding a third lane from Al Mouj roundabout to Al Mawaleh bridge, in addition to creating two underpasses for vehicles heading from 18 November road to Al Mawaleh bridge.
His Excellency Eng. Al Shamkhi said the project will significantly enhance road network efficiency in Muscat Governorate by reducing congestion. He noted that the project design was refined using a traffic simulation model developed in coordination with several authorities, including the Royal Oman Police.
He added that the company will begin initial preparatory works within two months, followed by full-scale construction, with completion expected within 30 months. Traffic will be managed through temporary diversions, off-peak work schedules, and phased openings of completed sections.
Regarding the Muscat Expressway, His Excellency confirmed that work on the project tender is progressing, with most bid evaluations and financial approvals completed. Final procedures are currently underway with the Projects, Tenders, and Local Content Authority.
