Muscat: The workshop on updating the Arabian Leopard Conservation Strategy brought together experts and specialists from Oman and abroad to evaluate progress made since the 2014–2025 plan and to outline future priorities. Among the most prominent recommendations was the establishment of a specialized research center in Dhofar to serve as a scientific hub for studies and field monitoring related to the Arabian leopard and its habitat.

Participants also called for the renewal of strategic objectives to reflect past achievements, alongside the formation of a national committee led by the Environment Authority. The committee will include representatives from relevant institutions to ensure coordination and follow-up on the implementation of the new strategy.

Other recommendations included updating environmental legislation to provide stronger protection for the Arabian leopard and its prey, expanding the network of nature reserves across the Sultanate, and training national cadres in collaboration with the Arabian Leopard Fund in Saudi Arabia and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The workshop featured brainstorming sessions and scientific discussions focused on tackling environmental challenges, enhancing conservation programs, and improving the management of natural habitats. The program concluded with a field visit to Jabal Samhan Nature Reserve, where participants observed on-ground efforts within the Arabian Leopard Conservation Project.
