Muscat: The Environment Authority reported that the northern parts of the Sultanate, including Musandam, Al Buraimi, North and South Al Batinah, Ad Dhahirah, Muscat, Ad Dakhiliyah, and South Ash Sharqiyah, are currently experiencing elevated levels of airborne dust and particulate matter. These conditions have led to a significant drop in air quality, posing potential health risks, particularly for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.
Authorities have advised the public to remain indoors as much as possible, ensuring that doors and windows remain tightly closed to minimize exposure. Those who must go outside are urged to wear protective masks, while air conditioners should be operated in indoor recirculation mode to prevent dust infiltration. The public is also advised to avoid outdoor exercise and limit physical activity, especially during peak dust periods.
Motorists are being warned to drive cautiously and use headlights in case of reduced visibility on the roads. The Environment Authority emphasized that it is closely monitoring air quality across the affected governorates and will continue to issue updates through its Naqi platform as the situation develops
