MUSCAT – The package of developmental and improvement projects are focused on enhancing infrastructure, improving the quality of life, and strengthening economic and tourism assets in line with the Sultanate’s sustainable development goals.
His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Muslim Al Kathiri, Governor of Al Wusta, told the Oman News Agency that more than 22 development and improvement projects are currently underway across various villages and wilayats in the governorate, with a total investment of about RO 20 million. These projects aim to develop cities and villages, preserve the environment, and promote comprehensive economic and social growth.

His Excellency explained that in the Wilayat of Haima, seven major development projects are being implemented at a total cost of approximately RO 5.73 million. Among the key initiatives are the Knowledge Park and Exhibition Square projects, valued at RO 796,000, designed to enhance the urban landscape and promote domestic tourism.
Other projects include the Camel Racing Square platform at a cost of RO 248,000, the Haima Residential Scheme Development Project worth RO 1.8 million, and the paving of 30 kilometre of internal roads with 250 new lighting poles, valued at RO 2 million. Additionally, an integrated agricultural nursery worth RO 181,000 and several village beautification and park development projects valued at over RO 700,000 are underway.
In the Wilayat of Mahout, six development projects worth RO 5.87 million are in progress. These include the Central Market project (RO 450,000), the project to develop the Wilayat Center facade (RO 1.5 million), and a camel racing platform and track (RO 138,000). The programme also covers 30 kilometres of internal roads and the development of the commercial plan in Al-Jawbah, valued at RO 2 million.
His Excellency added that 350 lighting poles are being installed in various villages at a cost of RO 400,000, along with parks and beach umbrellas in Wadi Al Sail, Al Khuluf, Sarab, and Al Ghadan villages, valued at over RO 1.38 million.
The Wilayat of Duqm is witnessing six major projects worth RO 5.1 million, including phase two of the Ras Madrakah Waterfront development project (RO 265,000), the Dhahr and Ras Madrakah facade development projects (RO 1 million), and phase one of the Wadi Dharf development project (RO 744,000), aimed at promoting ecotourism.
Infrastructure works include designing and paving the 17 km Heetam–Al Barr road, and the installation of 250 lighting poles, at a total cost of RO 3 million. A football field is also being built in Heetam village for RO 98,000.
In the Wilayat of Al Jazir, development projects worth RO 2.84 million are being implemented, including phase two of the Ras Suqrah Beach development project (RO 188,000), the Al Lakbi Beachfront project (RO 430,000), and 26.5 km of internal and commercial roads with 322 lighting poles, valued at RO 2 million. Additional projects include a camel racing platform (RO 115,000) and a football stadium (RO 104,000).
His Excellency highlighted that the governorate, in coordination with the Ministry of Economy and other authorities, continues to implement economic and social initiatives aimed at supporting the local economy and attracting investment. Key projects include shrimp farming ventures with total investments exceeding RO 462 million and a sea cucumber farming project valued at RO 2.31 million.
Efforts are also underway to establish the Haima Nature Reserve in cooperation with the Environment Authority and to promote renewable energy projects, particularly in green hydrogen, solar, and wind energy. Additionally, initiatives are being developed to enhance cold chain systems in the fisheries sector in Duqm, supporting the sector’s added value and export capacity.
His Excellency reaffirmed that Al Wusta Governorate continues to advance the decentralization model by empowering local administrations through the offices of the governors and community committees. This includes activating local committees’ roles, implementing a financial performance program, and strengthening community partnership to achieve sustainable local development.
The governorate also prioritises youth and women empowerment, with initiatives such as building sports facilities, supporting women’s associations and charitable teams, and organizing community programs that address social needs. The Sustainable Care for Families initiative and direct engagement with youth aim to enhance community participation in the governorate’s ongoing development journey.
