MUSCAT – According to Chapter One of the law, individuals with disabilities are entitled to civil rights and protection from violence, exploitation, and abuse. The legislation also mandates inclusive design standards for all public facilities and requires that banking and financial services be accessible and adaptive to meet the needs of people with different disabilities.
Civil rights ensured by the law are as follows:
• Protection from violence, exploitation, and abuse.
• Adherence to inclusive designs for all types of public facilities.
• Provision of all banking services in an accessible and adaptive manner to various types of disabilities
• The right to political participation, to stand and vote for all elections.
• The right to litigation and to the facilitation of the exercise of this right, including the provision of legal representation during investigation and trial.
• Appropriate representation on the boards of associations that concern them.
