MUSCAT : The project, which runs until 2026, seeks to empower Omani factories with advanced industrial technologies and foster a sustainable digital transformation across the sector. By promoting automation, artificial intelligence, and data-driven innovation, the initiative aligns closely with Oman Vision 2040’s goal of building a diversified and future-ready economy.
The first phase of the project focused on awareness-building and capacity development. It included preparing a national guide for smart factories based on the global Smart Industry Readiness Index (SIRI), organizing introductory workshops across several governorates, and assessing 20 factories from various sectors. Additionally, the ministry trained and certified Omani assessors, partnered with international organizations such as the International Center for Industrial Transformation, and launched the Advanced Automation Center to further industrial innovation.
The second phase, now underway, targets the evaluation of 60 Omani factories throughout 2025 in partnership with the International Center for Industrial Transformation. This phase includes preliminary consultations, on-site assessments during October and November, and the preparation of detailed transformation reports outlining each factory’s digital readiness and future roadmap.

In parallel, MoCIIP aims to attract investment and strengthen partnerships to establish Omani companies specializing in industrial assessment and digital solutions. This move is expected to create a dynamic ecosystem that supports innovation, enhances productivity, and diversifies the national economy.
Engineer Idris bin Hassan Al Sinan, Head of the Knowledge-Based Industries Department at MoCIIP, emphasized that the launch of the second phase reaffirms the ministry’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation in Oman’s industrial sector. “Through the Smart Production Factories project, we are building specialized national capabilities and creating an environment that nurtures industrial innovation, preparing Omani factories to compete regionally and globally,” he said.
