MUSCAT – In a statement issued, the Public Prosecution stressed that withholding or destroying a victim’s passport to coerce them into committing acts of human trafficking is a punishable offense under Article 22 of the Law on Combating Human Trafficking, issued by Royal Decree No. 78/2025.
Violators face up to one year in prison and/or a fine of RO 300, with either penalty applicable depending on the case.
The announcement is part of the ongoing national awareness campaign titled ‘Aman’, launched in July 2025 by the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking. The campaign aims to foster a culture of crime prevention, enhance support for victims, and strengthen cooperation with relevant local and international institutions.
