DUBAI : The extension, announced by Ajith Kolassery, CEO of NORKA (Non-Resident Keralites Affairs), comes after overwhelming interest from the Malayali diaspora. Initially set to close on October 22, the registration period was prolonged to accommodate growing demand and pending requests ahead of the official scheme launch on November 1, coinciding with Kerala Piravi (Formation) Day.

The NORKA Care Insurance Plan offers health coverage up to ₹500,000 (approximately Dh20,800) and accident insurance up to ₹1 million (Dh41,600), totaling more than Dh62,000. For an annual premium of less than Dh1 per day, the plan includes no medical tests, no co-pay, and no waiting period, while covering all pre-existing medical conditions, making it one of the most inclusive health protection programs available to expatriates.

Ajith Kolassery, who recently visited the UAE to raise awareness about the initiative, said the scheme was launched in response to strong demand from the diaspora for an affordable yet comprehensive insurance option. Since the campaign’s launch on September 22, around 50,000 families have already registered, with more applications pending approval.

Open to anyone between 18 and 70 years, the plan offers equal premiums for all age groups, ensuring accessibility regardless of health or income status. The insurance network includes around 500 hospitals in Kerala and more than 17,000 hospitals across India, providing cashless treatment and reimbursement options for those seeking care outside the listed network.

With healthcare costs rising in the Gulf region, the scheme has been hailed as a significant relief measure for thousands of low- and middle-income expatriate families. The UAE, home to one of the largest Malayali populations abroad, is expected to see high participation before enrolments close on October 30.

How to Register:

Eligible expats must hold a valid NORKA Pravasi ID Card (or NORKA Student ID) to join. Applications can be completed via the official NORKA Roots portal (id.norkaroots.kerala.gov.in) or the mobile app available on Google Play and Apple App Store. Applicants need to upload their passport, visa or residence permit, a passport-size photo, and signature, then complete payment using Indian or international cards. Once registered, insurance benefits will be activated from November 1.
