MUSCAT : Oman national football team head coach Carlos Queiroz expressed confidence and determination ahead of Saturday’s crucial World Cup qualifying clash against the United Arab Emirates, calling it a defining moment for his side.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Queiroz said his main focus has been on ensuring the players are physically recovered and mentally sharp. “We are completely focused on recovery and rest for the players. We’re preparing the team for tomorrow’s match, and once the game begins, we’ll be fully ready to achieve our goal,” he said.
Queiroz underlined that victory remains the team’s only target. “In every match, our objective is to win — and this time it’s no different. Both teams want the same thing: to win, get a positive result, and make our fans proud.”

The veteran coach, who has led several national teams at the World Cup, emphasized the importance of discipline, teamwork, and self-belief. “Everyone knows their responsibilities and the importance of this game. It’s an important match — one that could write history if we qualify for the World Cup,” he said.
“It’s a simple game that depends on players’ performance, discipline, and confidence. The chances are equal, the risks are big, and we have nothing to lose from this participation.”
Praising the UAE side while stressing Oman’s collective strength, Queiroz added: “The UAE are the favourites; they’ve assembled a team full of stars. The pressure and responsibility are on them because their risk is greater. We have full respect for the UAE — they have excellent players — but our team is strong, and we play with a remarkable collective spirit.”
He concluded by saying that the Omani players are ready to give their all for the nation: “The opportunities are balanced, and while both teams face pressure, it’s heavier on the UAE. We’re ready to fight, stay disciplined, and make Oman proud.”
The much-anticipated match between Oman and the UAE takes place on Saturday night at Thani Bin Jassim Stadium, with both teams eyeing a crucial step toward 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.
