Muscat – The initiative, led by the Earthquake Monitoring Centre (EMC) at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), brings the total number of stations in the Oman Strong Motion Network to 126, making it the largest and most advanced real-time earthquake monitoring system in the region, according to EMC officials.
The newly deployed stations are strategically positioned in coastal, urban, mountainous, and desert areas, selected based on geological conditions, soil type, and population density. The design ensures comprehensive nationwide coverage, enabling precise, real-time monitoring of seismic activity.
