MUSCAT — The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has announced the extension of the deadline for exchanging expired banknotes from previous issues, allowing members of the public additional time to redeem their old currency through banks operating across the Sultanate.

According to the CBO, the extended period applies to banknotes issued prior to the Sixth Issue (2020), and the redemption process will remain available until the end of the working day on Monday, 21 September 2026.

The bank emphasized that no claims for redemption of expired notes will be accepted after this date, urging the public to take prompt action and exchange any outdated notes within the specified timeframe.

The CBO reiterated that the redemption service is available through all licensed banks in Oman, ensuring ease of access for citizens and residents across governorates.

This move is part of the Central Bank’s ongoing efforts to facilitate smooth financial transactions and maintain confidence in the national currency system.
