The data highlights a pressing need for behavioural change in commuting habits, with the Municipality urging residents to ‘create the change’ and carpool as part of efforts to reduce congestion, lower emissions, and improve traffic flow across Muscat.
Breakdown of vehicle occupancy shows that only 15.9 percent of trips include two passengers, 5.1 percent have three, 4.0 percent have four, 2.2 percent carry five, 0.7 percent carry six, and a mere 0.2 percent involve seven passengers.
