Muscat completes major traffic study with data from 250,000 travellers

Muscat Municipality has successfully completed a series of comprehensive traffic surveys across all six wilayats of the Governorate, as part of the Muscat Area Traffic Study 2025.

Muscat – The initiative collected field data that supports a scientific and accurate assessment of the road network’s performance, informing future transport planning and infrastructure development.
The surveys covered a wide range of traffic and mobility metrics. These included automated traffic counts at 54 locations, traffic movement counts at 88 junctions, and interchange turning counts at 21 interchanges. To assess real-world travel times and congestion levels, journey time surveys were conducted across 6 major routes.

In addition, origin-destination travel surveys collected data from 250,000 participants, offering valuable insights into commuting patterns and travel behaviour. The stated preference survey was conducted at 17 locations to understand public attitudes toward transport choices, while public parking surveys were carried out at 7 key locations to evaluate parking demand and usage.
