New Delhi: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal led an Indian delegation to Washington from September 22–24, holding what officials described as “constructive” meetings with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor.
According to India’s Commerce Ministry, discussions centered on the contours of a comprehensive trade agreement that could potentially double bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030, up from the current $191 billion. “Both sides exchanged views on possible contours of the deal, and it was decided to continue the engagements with a view to achieve early conclusion of a mutually beneficial Trade Agreement,” the ministry said in a statement .
The talks in Washington coincided with a parallel diplomatic engagement in New York, where External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
