MUSCAT : Heading the delegation, His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized Oman’s determination, guided by the directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to remain an active partner in international efforts to safeguard the environment and combat climate change.

In his address, His Excellency highlighted that environmental sustainability is a cornerstone of Oman Vision 2040. He reiterated the nation’s target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 through green investments, renewable energy projects, and a robust green hydrogen program. Oman aims to source more than 30% of its electricity from renewables by 2030 and ramp up green hydrogen production to one million tons annually within the same timeframe, expanding to eight million tons by 2050.

His Excellency further pointed to Oman’s initiatives in sustainable urban planning and integrating climate considerations across sectors such as agriculture, health, and tourism. He noted the country’s early warning systems for hurricanes, floods, and heatwaves, which have strengthened preparedness and saved lives.

Stressing the urgency of collective action, His Excellency Sayyid Badr called on major economies to champion low-carbon industries, accelerate the rollout of green infrastructure, and support vulnerable nations facing the harshest impacts of climate change.

Concluding his speech, he reaffirmed Oman’s faith in the Paris Agreement as a critical framework for global climate action, stressing that success will depend on accelerating joint measures, enhancing technology-sharing, and building mutual trust to secure a sustainable future for generations to come.
