MUSCAT – In the first case, the court convicted a defendant for failing to deliver interior decoration services as agreed upon with a consumer. The Directorate General for Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in North Al Batinah Governorate received a complaint from the consumer, who had contracted an establishment for decoration, gypsum, and paint works worth RO 2,900, to be completed within three months.
The establishment failed to meet the agreed deadline and repeatedly delayed the work. After investigating the complaint, the Directorate referred the matter to the Public Prosecution, which subsequently transferred the case to the competent court.
The court found the defendant guilty of violating the Consumer Protection Law for failing to provide the service properly and in accordance with its agreed specifications. The defendant was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment, fined RO 250, ordered to pay court expenses, and deported from the country.
In the second case, the court addressed another complaint involving an establishment specialising in furniture design. The consumer had contracted the company to manufacture two bedrooms and carry out decoration work in two halls, with an agreed delivery period of one month. The establishment failed to deliver the furniture on time, breaching the terms of the contract.
