MUSCAT – From October 12, 2025, the European Union will begin phased implementation of the Entry/Exit System (EES), an automated border control system designed to simplify and secure travel to 29 European countries.
In a statement issued on its X platform, the Embassy stated: “As of 12 Oct 2025, the Entry/Exit System will gradually record: data from the travel document, travel dates, and biometric data In line with EU data protection rules.”
The EES will digitally register travellers who are not citizens of the EU or associated countries each time they cross an external Schengen border. It will apply to those entering Europe for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period, whether visa-exempt or traveling with a short-stay visa.
According to the EU, the system will gradually roll out at border crossing points from 12 October 2025, with full implementation expected by 10 April 2026.

The system is set to replace manual passport stamping, aiming to streamline border checks and prevent overstays, while remaining fully compliant with EU data protection regulations.
