PARIS — France has formally recognised a Palestinian state, joining a growing number of Western nations ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
On Sunday, Australia, Britain, Canada and Portugal also announced their recognition, adding diplomatic weight and increasing pressure on Israel as its war on Gaza continues. The conflict has killed more than 65,000 Palestinians and left much of the enclave in ruin.
